TF2 Strange Parts: Additional Counters, Compatibility and Removal

Distinguish an unused Strange Part from an applied counter, check item compatibility and understand what happens when a Part is removed.

THE KEY POINT

A Strange Part is a tool for an additional statistic. A weapon carrying that counter and an unused Part are different inventory items.

01

Identify the tool or the item carrying it

An unused Strange Part is its own inventory item. Once applied, its statistic appears as a property of the receiving Strange item. Read which object the listing sells before comparing a standalone Part with a weapon containing the same named counter.

Record the complete weapon or cosmetic name and the additional statistic you want. A mention of Headshot Kills in a description does not turn the entire listing into an unused Headshot Kills tool. Check the inventory item type and the actual offer.

Unused tool, applied counter and removal. Unused Strange Part: A separate inventory tool for a named statistic; check compatibility.; Applied to a Strange item: The additional counter belongs to that item and starts tracking from application.; Removed through Restore: The Part is permanently lost. It does not return as an unused tool.

A weapon carrying a statistic is not the same inventory item as the unused Part. Check the restoration consequence before confirming.

02

Check the statistic against the receiving item

The official wiki documents item-specific compatibility and a maximum of three Strange Parts on one Strange item. A statistic can be valid for one weapon and unavailable for another; the item's gameplay role alone is not a substitute for the compatibility rules.

A newly applied Part starts tracking its statistic from application rather than importing previous events. Keep that additional counter separate from the item's original Strange counter and from a Killstreak count that resets during play.

03

Removing a Part does not give the tool back

The wiki describes removal through Restore in the backpack. A removed Strange Part is permanently lost instead of returning to inventory. Read the restoration action carefully before confirming it.

If you are checking a sale, preserve the item details before any restoration. Removing a property changes what another buyer is comparing. A record of the original counter is useful evidence, but it does not preserve the removed tool.

04

Compare the same configuration at the final offer

  • Distinguish an unused Part from an applied statistic.
  • Match the exact Part name and receiving item.
  • Check all additional counters, not only the main rank.
  • Keep Killstreak and Unusual properties separate.
  • Recheck the final offer before accepting.
