THE KEY POINT
Check where the approved refund was sent. A Wallet credit, a bank refund and an original payment cancellation produce different records.
01
Open the original purchase in account history
From your Steam account details, open purchase history and locate the original transaction. Keep the purchase reference, approval time, amount and refund destination together. An email saying approved describes a decision; the account and payment records show where the result is recorded.
If you are looking for Wallet funds, check subsequent purchases too. Steam's refund FAQ specifically directs users to purchase history when an expected credit appears to be missing. A later purchase can explain a lower available balance without changing the original refund decision.
02
Match the refund to the correct balance
Steam describes approved Wallet credit as taking 24–48 hours to appear and approved refunds as taking up to seven days, with longer processing possible for international methods. Use the recorded destination and approval time when comparing those estimates with your case.
These timings concern refunds. They are not a release schedule for a Community Market sale or a skin site's cashout. Keep those transactions under their own references so support can identify the payment you mean.
Start with the refund destination in the original purchase record. A cancellation and a separate refund payment have different statement entries.
03
A cancelled payment does not require a new credit entry
Steam says a refund approved within 24 hours of purchase can cancel the original transaction. The bank then releases its hold; that process differs from a second payment credited to your statement. Compare the original entry's state rather than searching only for a new positive amount.
For a bank-payment question, retain the merchant reference and whether the original charge is pending or completed. Keep card numbers out of screenshots. Follow up with the payment provider using that record when its processing remains unresolved.
04
Send the destination and status together
- Keep the purchase and refund references.
- Name Wallet or the original payment method.
- Include approval time and the current transaction state.
