Find Your SteamID and Check Which Account a Skin Site Uses

Distinguish a SteamID, profile nickname, custom profile URL and Trade URL before reporting missing skins or a linked-account mismatch.

THE KEY POINT

A SteamID identifies the account. A familiar nickname or avatar does not establish that two pages belong to the same account.

01

Keep the identifiers separate

Valve describes the common 64-bit SteamID as a 17-digit account identifier. The account’s SteamID and Steam Account Name cannot be changed, while the public player name can. Copy the identifier carefully rather than comparing names alone.

A custom Community profile URL is another presentation of a profile address. It is not the same value as the Trade URL used for offers. Label the value you record so support knows whether it is an account identifier, profile address or trade link.

02

Use Valve’s account-identity instructions

Open your Steam Community profile and choose Edit Profile. Valve’s instructions say the numeric ID appears in the profile URL below the Custom URL box when no custom URL is set. If a custom value is present, its guide describes clearing that text to reveal the numeric URL.

Before editing an existing custom value, copy it privately. Reading an identifier does not require publishing a new profile address. Do not save an unintended custom-URL change, and use the official instructions if your interface differs.

03

Compare accounts before diagnosing a missing item

Record which profile is open in Steam and which account the other service identifies as linked. If they differ, describe that mismatch to the service through its official account-help route. Do not assume unlinking or reconnecting will transfer an old balance or change an order’s owner.

For a support request, attach the relevant profile reference, game, item name and order reference. Keep login names and recovery information out of public images. An account-identity check narrows the issue; it does not establish a service’s relinking policy.

BEFORE YOU CONTINUE

Quick checklist

  • Record the identifier type.
  • Compare accounts rather than nicknames.
  • Keep any existing custom URL before editing.
  • Ask the service about its actual relinking rules.
