Steam Next Fest Is Live: Try Demos Before October 26

October's Steam Next Fest is underway, with playable demos for upcoming games. The event runs from October 19 at 10:00 AM PDT to October 26 at 10:00 AM PDT: 17:00 UTC on both dates. Use the week to test a short list of games rather than treating every download as a full release.

Event window: October 19–26, 2026. Official Steamworks schedule and demo FAQ reviewed October 20. Publication date is separate from the event's opening date. Valve's player announcement was also read in a browser on October 20.

Start with the demo attached to the game

Open the official Next Fest page, choose a participating game and read its store page before installing. Valve's event documentation describes demos of upcoming, unreleased games, alongside developer interaction and broadcasts. Participation does not establish that the finished game is available now.

Steam Playtest is a separate testing system. A Playtest listing and a public demo can therefore represent different builds; check which one you are requesting or launching.

A short checklist makes testing more useful

  • Choose two or three games with a specific question: do the controls, pacing or multiplayer setup suit you?
  • Read the demo's supported platform, system requirements and description of the included content.
  • Keep the demo's title and build details if reporting a crash. Explain the action that reproduced it, rather than assuming every failure is a Steam problem.
  • After playing, note what you enjoyed and what remains uncertain. Check the full game's store page for its release plans and any explanation of progress transfer before buying.

Will the demo still work after the festival?

Valve encourages developers to keep demos available beyond Next Fest but leaves that decision to them. The festival's closing time is not a universal promise that every demo disappears then, or that every installed demo remains accessible afterwards. Follow the individual developer's announcement when planning what to play first.
