CS2 November 5 Update: Faster Retakes and New Scripting Tools

Retakes should spend less time between rounds after Valve’s November 5 update. Its bomb defuse can also finish immediately under specific conditions. Keep that rule attached to Retakes when comparing the patch with a normal match.

The quick defuse has conditions

Valve says the Retakes defuse finishes immediately when enough round time remains and no active utility prevents it. It also reduces freeze time and the round restart delay. The announcement does not give replacement timings for those delays.

That makes the game mode important context for a clip. A fast finish in Retakes is not evidence that a normal competitive round uses a new universal defuse timer. Read the round state before comparing two examples.

A smaller change for pet chickens

The patch lets a ping request a pet-chicken trick during freeze time. It also hides pet-chicken names when customized item text is set to hidden. These are presentation and interaction changes, rather than evidence of a new tradable skin category.

Map creators should review their scripts

The scripting update adds entity spawning and bot-control helpers. Several moved or renamed methods remain available in their previous locations as deprecated methods.

Keep a working copy before updating a map script. Read the official API changes against the particular methods your map uses, then test the interactions that depend on them. A map that loads successfully has not necessarily exercised every scripted event.

Do not mix this with the silent reload patch

Silent Reload Mode gained its Hold or Toggle choice in the October 28 update. It is a separate control setting, covered in the linked guide. Use the patch date to decide which behavior an older tutorial describes.
