TF2 Tour of Duty Tickets: when a mission consumes one

A Tour of Duty Ticket is for Mann Up, rather than every MvM match. Check the badge’s unfinished missions before diagnosing consumption or missing tour progress.

THE QUICK ANSWER

Valve says a ticket is consumed when you successfully complete an unfinished Mann Up mission. Failure and a mission already complete on that tour do not consume the ticket.

01

Check Mann Up and the tour badge

Valve’s MvM FAQ separates free MvM play from Mann Up, where a Tour of Duty Ticket enables reward progression. Identify the mode and tour before expecting a ticket to change.

A Tour of Duty consists of several missions, and the badge records which are complete. Completing one mission is different from finishing the entire tour. Save the exact tour and mission name when comparing progress.

Will this mission use the ticket?

  1. Not completed

Valve says the ticket is not consumed.

  2. Success on an unfinished mission

Ticket consumption and mission progress apply.

  3. Success on a completed mission

The ticket stays and the badge does not advance.

02

Use the mission result and its prior state

Valve says successfully completing an unfinished mission consumes the ticket and awards that mission’s item. An unsuccessful attempt does not consume it.

If the mission was already marked complete on the current badge, the FAQ says completing it again does not consume the ticket or update tour progress. A ticket that remains after that replay is consistent with the documented rule.

03

Do not substitute a Squad Surplus Voucher

The FAQ gives Squad Surplus Vouchers a different successful-mission rule, including for a mission already complete on the badge. A voucher and a ticket are separate consumables.

Record which tool changed in inventory. Reporting only “my MvM item was used” can hide whether you mean ticket admission/progress or an optional team reward voucher.

04

A completed tour does not specify a chosen rare item

Valve describes a random rare reward for completing the entire tour. That is not a promise of a particular weapon after one mission or a reason to buy repeated tickets to troubleshoot delivery.

For a discrepancy, save the mode, badge state, mission result and before/after ticket count. Include the item’s exact name and keep any payment receipt separate from gameplay progress.

BEFORE YOU CONTINUE

Quick checklist

  • Identify Mann Up and the specific tour.
  • Read whether the mission was unfinished on the badge.
  • Separate mission success from full-tour completion.
  • Distinguish tickets from Squad Surplus Vouchers.

Valve’s full readable MvM FAQ and current readable Ticket/Voucher item descriptions support the mission, badge, repeated-mission and consumable distinctions. Its launch-era wording calls Mann Up official-server play; this guide uses mode names to avoid implying all present official free MvM servers require payment. No mission, reward roll, ticket use, purchase or account badge was tested. Prices and historical abandonment timings are omitted.
