THE QUICK ANSWER
A Halloween / Full Moon restriction concerns when the cosmetic appears in gameplay. It is separate from owning the item, its quality and whether Steam permits a trade.
01
Read the exact item attribute
The community-maintained Halloween reference describes holiday-restricted costumes as visible during Halloween and Full Moon events. Check the actual Holiday Restriction line instead of inferring it from a spooky name or artwork.
Valve’s October 2021 Corpse Carrier update explicitly added Halloween / Full Moon restriction to that item. It is a concrete example of why old screenshots or an earlier description may not establish current visibility.

Keep ownership and gameplay visibility separate
A cosmetic can remain in your inventory and appear in a loadout context while the server’s holiday state controls its in-game appearance. The indexed War Blunder reference explicitly describes the gameplay restriction and server Halloween-mode exception.
If it appears in the backpack but not during play, save both views and name the server. A missing inventory entry is a different problem from a correctly owned but currently hidden cosmetic.
| Present in inventory | The item is owned by the account. |
|---|---|
| Visible in a loadout preview | The preview shows that configuration. |
| Visible during gameplay | The item and current server holiday context permit it. |
03
Check the current game context
A community server can have a different holiday-mode configuration from another server. Compare the same item in the relevant server context before treating one person’s screenshot as a universal calendar rule.
Use the current game event information rather than a real-world lunar calendar alone. This guide does not publish a future Full Moon schedule or promise that every server uses identical settings.
Read three independent fields
Quality
Strange, Unusual or Haunted describes the item quality.
Holiday restriction
Controls the documented holiday visibility condition.
Trade notice
Controls Steam transfer eligibility.
An original property matrix; a quality label does not replace the holiday line.

Quality and trade restrictions answer other questions
Do not use Haunted or Unusual quality as shorthand for visibility permission. Read quality, the holiday attribute and the Steam trade notice as separate fields.
For support, provide the exact item, holiday line and whether it is absent from inventory, preview or gameplay. That identifies the failed stage without purchasing a second copy.
