THE QUICK ANSWER
A listing can fail either its own price ceiling or the account’s remaining Wallet room. Use the actual localized notice and include existing commitments.
01
Identify which ceiling the notice describes
Valve’s FAQ gives limits close to US$2,000 for Wallet funds and US$1,800 for one Market listing, with localized equivalents. It also checks Wallet balance plus the sale price of listed items. These are separate constraints.
Read the exact notice in your account and currency before changing a quote. A rejected amount does not by itself establish an account ban, an unmarketable item or a missing payment.

Work out illustrative Wallet room
For a simplified fictional USD example, a 1,700-unit balance and a proposed 400-unit sale total 2,100, which exceeds a 2,000-unit ceiling even though 400 is below a 1,800-unit single-item ceiling.
Use the actual preview, currency and other listings for your account. The example explains the distinction; it does not establish a universal conversion value or recreate Valve’s full account-level enforcement.
| Illustrative existing balance | 1,700 units |
|---|---|
| Illustrative proposed sale | 400 units |
| Combined amount | 2,100 units |
| Different constraint | 400 remains below the illustrative 1,800 single-listing ceiling |
03
Do not treat another associated account as new capacity
The FAQ states that associated Steam Wallet balances are aggregated for this limit. Treat the rule as an account-level constraint rather than assuming another associated Wallet independently resets it.
Keep a record of the exact rejection and relevant balance or listing totals. If the arithmetic appears inconsistent, ask Steam Support about the notice without disclosing credentials or creating transactions merely to test capacity.
Explanation: the invented headroom example
Existing balance
1,700 units.
Proposed sale
400 units.
Combined
2,100 exceeds an illustrative 2,000 ceiling.
Individual price
400 alone is below an illustrative 1,800 ceiling.

Use the current localized limit and preview
The FAQ describes approximate equivalents outside USD and says limits may change. Copy the amount Steam actually shows for the listing currency. A third-party converter does not define the platform’s current ceiling.
Minimum sale prices can also depend on currency. A tiny-price rejection and a high-value ceiling rejection need different explanations, so retain the exact amount and error text.
05
Separate a limit from a valuation
A maximum permitted listing is a platform constraint, not an appraisal of your skin. It does not establish that every item is worth the ceiling or that a buyer will pay it.
If a skin cannot be listed at the intended price, pause the listing decision and keep the quote evidence. The existing comparison and fee guides can help compare permitted transaction routes, without assuming that a higher asking amount becomes a cash payout.

- Identify Wallet capacity versus per-item ceiling.
- Include the existing balance and relevant listings.
- Use the localized amount in Steam’s notice.
- Keep platform limits separate from item value.
