THE QUICK ANSWER
Verify the address Steam actually has on file. An email change is complete only after its verification flow succeeds; changing a profile name does not update contact email.
01
Check the address in Account Details
Valve says a verified email is labelled Verified beneath the email address on Steam Account Details. Open that page directly and compare the registered address with the inbox you still control.
This is a private account check. Record only enough of the address to distinguish an old inbox from the current one in a public report. Keep the full address for the genuine private recovery request if it needs it.

For a planned change, complete the verification
Valve’s contact-email article documents Change contact email in the Steam client’s account settings. Its procedure verifies the new address by email, then returns you to Steam to finish. The page still calls the client section Account, so use its current contact-email control if your client groups account settings differently.
Choose an inbox you can open before starting. Keep the Steam dialog available while retrieving the verification email, follow the official verification link, and confirm the success state in Steam. A sent verification message alone does not prove the new address is active.
- Check the registered address and your access to it.
- Open Steam’s contact-email change control for a planned update.
- Complete the verification sent to the new inbox.
- Return to Steam and check the final address and verification status.

If you cannot receive the old inbox’s messages
The public FAQ documents a browser recovery route using SMS when a phone number has been added. Available verification choices depend on the account. Start with Help, I can’t sign in and follow the choices Steam actually offers.
Losing an inbox and losing an authenticator are different access problems. Write down which one is unavailable. If someone else changed the address, use the compromised-account guide rather than treating it as ordinary email delivery troubleshooting.

Confirm what changed
After a planned update, reopen Account Details and compare the displayed address with the intended inbox. Keep the time and any error if the result is unclear. Do not repeat several address changes to test a delayed message.
For a support follow-up, give the affected step and the exact error, not passwords or the verification link. The contact email, public profile details and Steam Account Name serve different purposes; editing one does not automatically change the others.
BEFORE YOU CONTINUE
Quick checklist
- Read the registered email and Verified label.
- Choose an inbox you control.
- Finish the new-address verification.
