Skinport discounts: suggested price and recent sales

Read what a Skinport suggested-price discount compares, then check sale history before treating the badge as a cash saving.

THE QUICK ANSWER

A discount badge compares a listing with its suggested reference. Read the reference date and compare suitable recent transactions; it is not a promised resale margin.

01

Name the reference behind the percentage

Skinport’s published buying guide describes discounts relative to its suggested price. It says that reference was generally based on 30-day Steam sales, with other sources for items above Steam’s price limit. This is the operator’s dated explanation, not a guarantee that every current reference uses an identical formula.

Keep the reference label with the listing amount. A percentage below a Wallet-market reference is different from a percentage below a completed cash-market sale.

Explanation: the benchmark changes the meaning

  1. Suggested price

Operator reference with a dated methodology.

  2. Listing amount

    The actual seller ask.

  3. Recent sales

    Separate transaction evidence to compare.

02

Check the discount calculation with like amounts

For a fictional suggested amount of 100 units and an asking price of 82, the displayed relationship is 18% below that reference: (100 − 82) ÷ 100. It says nothing on its own about the price another buyer will pay you.

Record the same currency and exact variant on both sides. A reference for a different exterior or category cannot establish a discount on your selected item.

03

Compare the recent transaction evidence

The guide points to Skinport’s price history and recent-sales area for past transactions. Use the item identity, time period and visible sales together. A single unusual transaction may be a poor comparable for an ordinary item.

Check exact float, phase, pattern and extras when those matter. If the history only groups a broad item name, say that it cannot settle the premium for one particular craft.

STRIKEPOT / EXPLAINED

Explanation: a discount needs its context

  1. Identity

    Same variant and relevant extras.

  2. Time

    Reference window and recent movement.

  3. Money

    Same currency and complete quote.

  4. Limit

    No resale margin is guaranteed.

04

Recognize a reference that may lag a change

Skinport’s guide explicitly warns that a suggested price can be inaccurate after a large recent change. A wide reference window can continue to reflect older transactions. Recheck the current offer and suitable recent evidence.

For an invented example, a month containing earlier 100-unit sales and later 80-unit sales should not be summarized by a badge alone. Note the date pattern and sample size rather than choosing the largest historical amount.

05

Save the comparison basis with your decision

Keep the listing URL, observation time, currency, suggested reference, current amount and comparable sales. Label any conclusion that relies on an unverified exact-item premium.

Use the actual final purchase or sale quote if you proceed. The reference can help frame a comparison, while final transaction costs and payment eligibility remain separate checks.

BEFORE YOU CONTINUE

Quick checklist

  • Keep the suggested-reference label with the percentage.
  • Compare the same variant and currency.
  • Read recent sales with their period and sample.
  • Do not equate a reference discount with profit.
