THE QUICK ANSWER
A catalogue row summarizes a group. Keep the game, currency and tradable parameter, and open an individual listing before relying on exact attributes.
01
Know what one catalogue row represents
Skinport’s Items documentation groups data under market_hash_name and supplies prices, quantity and metadata. These are item-summary fields, rather than a complete description of one individually inspectable skin.
Use the full name and game to choose the right group. A finish name without exterior or special category can mix items you did not mean to compare.
Explanation: retain the catalogue key
Game
app_id selects the inventory game.
Money
currency labels the amount.
Eligibility
tradable changes the requested set.
Identity
market_hash_name selects the group.

Keep game, currency and tradable settings together
The documented request can select app_id, currency and tradable, with tradable true by default. Comparisons made with different settings can describe different eligible sets even if the visible item names look similar.
For example, a fictional summary including restricted items can have a lower minimum than a summary limited to immediately tradable items. The difference does not by itself show a pricing error or an item disappearing.
| app_id | Which game’s catalogue is being summarized |
|---|---|
| currency | The unit for all quoted prices |
| tradable | Which eligibility set was requested |
| market_hash_name | Complete grouped item identity |
03
Do not treat minimum price as an exact-item quote
The lowest grouped amount does not establish the float, pattern, stickers or availability of the particular skin you want. Open an actual offer and inspect it before comparing an unusual item with the group minimum.
In an invented group of three asking amounts at 20, 23 and 40, the minimum is 20 and the quantity is three. That does not mean three identical skins are available at 20 or that the 40-unit item sold.
Explanation: a group minimum is not every item’s price
Invented asks
20, 23 and 40 units.
Group minimum
20 units.
Group quantity
Three items, not three at the minimum.
Exact selection
Still needs listing-level attributes.

Preserve zero quantity and null amounts
The documentation’s example includes an item with quantity zero and null listing-price statistics. Keep those states rather than replacing null with a zero-unit bargain. No available price is different from a free item.
Keep suggested_price separate as well. A reference may still be present when no current listing-price statistic exists; it is not a substitute for current supply.
05
Read the snapshot as a cached summary
The endpoint has a documented five-minute cache, an eight-requests-per-five-minutes limit and required Brotli encoding. A read-only consumer should respect those rules and record the retrieval time rather than polling repeatedly.
These technical constraints matter when a price board appears stale. The summary is a snapshot for research, not a reserved basket, a personal inventory or a completed transaction.
BEFORE YOU CONTINUE
Quick checklist
- Save game, currency and tradable parameters.
- Read quantity as group availability.
- Open an exact listing for special attributes.
- Keep null price values and cache time visible.
