Rust blueprints: fragments, pages and books after the November update

Understand Rust’s three tech-tree resources, the separate Research Table route and what to check before spending a blueprint resource.

THE QUICK ANSWER

Match the resource to the tech tree you are using. Scrap still has a separate role at the Research Table.

01

Choose the tech tree or the Research Table

Open the item you want to learn before spending anything. A tech-tree unlock and research of an item you already have are different routes. Decide which problem you are solving: reaching an unlock through a tree, or researching the particular item in front of you.

The November rework uses Blueprint Fragments, Blueprint Pages and Blueprint Books for the three tech-tree tiers. The Research Table still uses scrap. Keeping both routes in mind prevents a pile of one resource from being mistaken for access to every unlock.

02

Read the unlock you actually need

Start with one target item. Check the relevant tree, any earlier unlocks shown there and the cost on your screen. Keep the item name in your note: collecting a resource is useful only if it advances the route you intend to take.

  1. Open the appropriate workbench tree.
  2. Find your target item and read its displayed requirements.
  3. Compare those requirements with the resources in your inventory.
  4. Unlock only when the item and route match your plan.

03

Check the item-research alternative

If you already have the item, inspect its Research Table route before continuing along a tree. Compare the resources each route asks for. Do not convert or spend a stack simply because an older guide used the same item name.

After learning a blueprint, check the crafting entry itself. Learning an item and possessing its crafting ingredients are separate steps. Keep the workbench requirement in that check too.

If the screen does not match an older guide

Record the server, game version, target item and the exact resource name shown. Compare the current patch notes before changing your plan. A screenshot of the actual unlock is more useful than a remembered cost from a previous wipe.
