THE QUICK ANSWER
A Target can wait for an item that is not currently listed. It can buy automatically when its conditions match and eligible funds are available.
01
Understand the instruction before activating it
A DMarket Target is a purchase instruction, rather than a message asking a seller for a quote. Matching and sufficient account funds can lead to an automatic purchase. Decide the item and maximum acceptable price before activating it.
Write down the full item name, game, variant, quantity if shown and desired price. A note in your own spreadsheet does not constrain the order; the parameters saved on DMarket do.
Explanation: choose the Target entry route
Already listed
Start from the selected Market item.
No listing now
Start with no selected item and enter the name.
Both routes
Review conditions, then save and activate.

Use the route that matches the item
DMarket documents one route from an item already on the Market and another from no selected item. The second route lets you name an item even when none is currently offered.
- For a listed item, add that item to the cart and choose Target.
- For an unavailable item, clear selected items, open Target and enter the full item name.
- Read the selected item and parameters before using Save and activate.
- Open My Targets and confirm the saved order and its status.
03
Check the kind of money available
The Target help requires sufficient balance when a match appears. DMarket’s later Tradable balance article explicitly excludes Target purchases from that balance’s uses. A large displayed total therefore may not all be eligible to fund this order.
This is a reason to inspect balance labels, not a reason to add more money. If the funding basis is unclear, leave the order inactive while checking its current requirements.
Explanation: which balance can fund this order?
Regular balance
Check eligible available funds.
Tradable balance
The documented uses exclude Targets.
Order record
Save currency, ceiling and activation state.

Original explanation · not an account screenshot| Invented order ceiling | 40 units for the intended item |
|---|---|
| Illustrative regular balance | 35 units |
| Illustrative Tradable balance | 20 units; not Target funding |
| Conclusion | The combined 55 does not establish 40 of eligible Target funds. |
04
Decide whether the name is precise enough
Float, pattern and phase have their own advanced controls. Applied stickers and Dota 2 gems cannot be requested through the documented Target-creation flow. Do not assume that selecting a pictured weapon requests its entire craft.
For example, wanting a particular rifle finish is different from wanting that finish with a particular applied sticker. If the extra cannot be encoded, inspect an individual listing instead of relying on a name-only Target.
05
Save an order record before waiting
Keep the saved conditions, price currency and activation time together. When an item is bought, retain the purchase reference as a new record; an active Target screenshot alone is not proof of delivery.
If nothing happens, check saved state, item conditions and eligible funds before making another overlapping Target. Two active instructions can expose you to more purchases than you intended.
BEFORE YOU CONTINUE
Quick checklist
- Confirm the complete item and game.
- Treat activation as permission for an automatic purchase.
- Separate eligible funds from Tradable balance.
- Check the saved order in My Targets.
