THE KEY POINT
Choose the listing route before calculating proceeds. A private-listing fee does not describe every sale on the public marketplace.
01
The published fee categories
Skinport’s 18 July 2025 fee announcement lists an 8% standard selling fee, 6% for items above €1,000 and 2% for private sales. Read the actual listing quote before committing, especially where another currency or a boundary value is involved.
These categories explain why two advertised percentages can both appear in guides. They do not establish a buyer’s price, guarantee an item will sell or tell you what an external bank may charge.
Explanatory diagram, not an interface screenshot or a completed transaction. Choose the listing route before calculating proceeds. A private-listing fee does not describe every sale on the public marketplace.
| 100 at an assumed 8% sale fee | 8 fee; 92 after that sale fee. |
|---|---|
| 100 at an assumed 2% sale fee | 2 fee; 98 after that sale fee. |
| Receiving another currency | Compare the stated conversion and received amount separately. |
| Listing worth exactly €1,000 | Use the actual fee quote; do not infer the boundary from 'above'. |
02
What a private listing changes
Skinport’s private-listing explanation says those items are accessed through their particular link rather than displayed in the public market section. That route can fit a sale to an already identified buyer; it should not be presented as public-market exposure at the private fee.
Decide how the intended buyer will find the listing before choosing a route. Keep the item and price check on the real Skinport page. A link to a listing does not justify sharing a password or accepting an unrelated Steam offer.
03
Compare equal outcomes rather than percentages alone
Write down the exact item, selling price, fee category, expected proceeds and receiving currency for each proposed sale. Then compare what remains after the deductions disclosed in the actual flow.
Two listings with different prices can reverse the impression created by their fees. An illustrative 100 sale with an 8 deduction leaves 92; a different offer of 90 with a 2 deduction leaves 88. The lower percentage is not automatically the larger net payment. These amounts are deliberately hypothetical and do not quote competing sites.
- Check the exact item and any valuable extra details.
- Confirm whether the listing is public or private.
- Record the displayed fee amount as well as its percentage.
- Keep selling proceeds separate from bank receipt and currency conversion.
04
What the quote does not tell you
A quote is not proof that a buyer has paid, a payout has been created or the receiving bank has credited money. Keep those stages separate when explaining a delayed cashout.
If the current quote differs from the published announcement, save both dates and ask official support which rule applies to that sale. Do not replace the quote with an older calculator screenshot. A 'no payout fee' claim from an older article also cannot guarantee that every bank or conversion route has no cost.
BEFORE YOU CONTINUE
Quick checklist
- Choose public or private listing deliberately.
- Use the actual fee quote for the currency and boundary value.
- Compare the net amount for the same item.
- Follow the sale and bank-payment records separately.
