Rust Spray Can: reskinning, decals and freehand drawing

The default Spray Can reskins objects; the Graffiti Pack adds drawing and decal modes. Use the tool’s mode controls rather than trying to skin the Spray Can at a repair bench.

THE QUICK ANSWER

Facepunch says default reskinning stays available to everyone. The Graffiti Pack adds decals and free spraying, selected through Reload; it does not require changing the can’s skin.

01

Check which Spray Can function you need

The developer’s Graffiti Pack announcement explicitly keeps the existing reskin function available to everyone. The pack supplies decals and free paint mode, which are separate functions of the tool.

A missing drawing option is therefore a different question from an unavailable reskin on a deployed object. Identify the intended action and the account’s pack access before troubleshooting the wrong mode.

STRIKEPOT / EXPLAINED

One tool, different jobs

  1. Default reskin function

    Changes a supported object’s skin.

  2. Graffiti decal mode

Places one of the pack’s selected designs.

  3. Free spray mode

Draws with selectable colour and spray size.

Original function comparison; no invented graffiti or skin is presented as a game asset.

02

Select decals or free spray

Facepunch documents holding Reload, R by default, to browse decals or select free spray. In free spray mode, Interact, E by default, changes spray size; Reload changes colour or returns to decal mode.

Read the current controls if those keys have been rebound. The current product page says the Spray Can does not need to be changed to another skin in a repair bench. Searching for a special can skin misses the pack’s mode selector.

Match the tool action
Reskin an objectUse the standard reskin function.
Choose a decalUse the Graffiti Pack’s Reload selection.
Freehand colour or sizeUse the documented controls while in free spray mode.

03

If someone else cannot see the drawing

The launch explanation says Hide Signs hides other players’ sprays while leaving your own visible. A difference between two players’ views can therefore be a visibility setting, not an ownership or delivery failure.

The article’s original spray lifetime and per-player cap were explicitly adjustable launch values. Do not treat those old numbers as universal current limits for every server.

A drawing option or mark is missing

  1. No draw mode

Check pack access and Reload selection.

  2. Wrong size or colour

Read the free-spray mode’s current bindings.

  3. Only others cannot see it

    Compare the Hide Signs setting.

04

Understand removal before clearing art

Facepunch documents clearing a spray by interacting while holding a water-filled container. Only clear artwork you intend to remove; a missing drawing afterward is different from a tool that never entered paint mode.

For support, record the selected mode, pack access, bindings and whether the problem concerns creation or visibility.

BEFORE YOU CONTINUE

Quick checklist

  • Separate reskinning from drawing modes.
  • Use the current Reload and Interact bindings.
  • Check Hide Signs for a visibility discrepancy.
  • Do not treat historical lifetime limits as universal.

The developer article and current pack page were read directly. No drawing, reskin, water removal, pack purchase or visibility test was performed. Launch-era duration/cap numbers are deliberately excluded. The hosted Graffiti Pack Wiki page was inaccessible, so it is not used for additional claims.
