DMarket protected exchanges: eligibility and inherited locks

Check original-depositor eligibility and the longest protection timer before exchanging a protected item on DMarket.

THE QUICK ANSWER

DMarket limits who can give a protected item in an exchange, and the received items can inherit the longest remaining protection period from the outgoing set.

01

Check who originally deposited the protected item

DMarket’s exchange-specific help permits giving a protected item only when you originally deposited it and retain the right to roll it back. Simply owning a protected item within DMarket is not the same condition.

Start with the exact item and the displayed reason the action is unavailable. A protected item bought from another depositor and your own recent deposit can have different exchange eligibility.

STRIKEPOT / EXPLAINED

Explanation: can this protected item be given?

  1. Original depositor

Check the documented eligibility and current control.

  2. Another depositor’s protected item

Ownership alone does not meet the stated condition.

  3. No active protection

    Read other item restrictions separately.

02

Check all outgoing timers before considering the result

The help says the items received in exchange cannot immediately be sold, listed or re-traded for a period matching the longest Trade Protection time among the items given. Read the whole outgoing set, rather than only the first item.

For example, if one hypothetical outgoing item has two days remaining and another has five, the documented longest-timer rule points to five days for the resulting exchange restriction. These are invented remaining periods, not a measured account timer.

03

Separate the received-item restriction from cash eligibility

A restriction on re-listing the received item, a Steam withdrawal lock and a restricted balance credit describe different actions. Check the current status for the action you intend.

The later Tradable balance article allows specific CS2 Market spending while excluding Targets, other games and cash withdrawal until release. Do not translate an exchange’s received-item lock into one universal statement about all money and all items.

STRIKEPOT / EXPLAINED

Explanation: the longest outgoing timer matters

  1. Input A

    Fictional two days left.

  2. Input B

    Fictional five days left.

  3. Received set

Inspect the lock based on the longest input period.

04

Know the documented refund destination

The exchange help describes automatic refunds to DMarket balance for rolled-back items, with that balance potentially remaining temporarily restricted. This is a platform-balance outcome, not a promise that the original item returns or a bank payment is sent.

Keep the exchange and rollback references together if a reversal occurred. Do not initiate a reversal as a routine cancellation test; use the actual recorded status and official support to understand an existing case.

05

Save eligibility, inputs and resulting timers

Record which outgoing item was originally yours, every relevant protection expiry, the exchange quote and the received-item state. If support must investigate, these explain why a particular result was expected.

Use the displayed expiry with its time zone instead of repeatedly estimating from the date you first saw a skin. If a result conflicts with the documented longest-timer rule, report the precise item and exchange references.

BEFORE YOU CONTINUE

Quick checklist

  • Confirm original-depositor eligibility.
  • Read every outgoing protection timer.
  • Inspect the resulting item restrictions.
  • Identify any refund’s balance type.
