THE QUICK ANSWER
Valve’s example transfers counts between two StatTrak M4A1-S weapons. The tool is single use and does not turn an ordinary weapon into a StatTrak weapon.
01
Identify both weapons first
Valve’s support article describes a single-use tool for transferring kill counts between StatTrak weapons of the same weapon type. Its example permits StatTrak M4A1-S to StatTrak M4A1-S, rather than another weapon.
Record the complete names and present counts of both items before opening the action. Similar rifle names are not enough: the base weapon matters as well as the StatTrak designation.
Does the pair meet the documented rule?
Both StatTrak?
The support article documents two StatTrak weapons.
Same base weapon?

Use it for an existing StatTrak pair
The documented use starts with two StatTrak weapons. Do not buy the tool as a way to add StatTrak to an ordinary weapon or to change a weapon model.
A different finish does not make an M4A1-S into an M4A4. Compare the weapon field separately from finish, exterior, stickers and custom name so visual similarity does not obscure the compatibility check.
| StatTrak M4A1-S + StatTrak M4A1-S | Matches the weapon pairing in Valve’s example. |
|---|---|
| StatTrak M4A1-S + a different weapon | Does not meet the same-weapon rule. |
| Ordinary weapon + StatTrak weapon | Does not match the documented two-StatTrak use. |
03
Read the actual count operation
Keep the before values visible and read the game’s selected-item confirmation. This is a counter operation with a single-use tool; a web listing’s estimate is not a preview of the resulting counts.
Do not infer Music Kit counter support from the tool’s name. The cited support article specifically documents weapon kill counts. Use a separately verified Music Kit instruction if that is your goal.

If a compatible pair cannot be selected
Read the item notices first. CS2 Trade Protection blocks modification temporarily, so an unavailable action can have a timing cause separate from weapon compatibility.
For support, save both full item names, current counts, the tool name and exact error. Avoid consuming another tool as an experiment.

The English support page returned only an image on direct extraction. Current indexed Valve text and a localized indexed FAQ verified single use, weapon counts and the M4A1-S same-weapon example. No tool use, count swap, unsupported Music Kit operation or purchase was tested.
