CS2 Charms: attach, detach and change placement

Check the weapon’s Charm and your Charm Detachments before changing its placement. Valve supports detaching and reattaching Charms; patches follow different rules.

THE QUICK ANSWER

Charms can attach to weapons except knives. Changing an attached Charm’s placement starts with a Charm Detachment and the weapon’s Detach Charm action.

01

Match the Charm to the weapon

Valve describes Charms as keychain-like items attachable to weapons except knives. Start with the exact receiving weapon and the Charm inventory item, then use the game’s preview to assess a supported position.

For a listing with a Charm already attached, inspect the delivered configuration. A weapon carrying an attachment and a standalone unused Charm are different inventory objects.

Move a Charm through its supported states

  1. Attached to weapon

Identify the receiving weapon and current position.

  2. Detach Charm

Have a Charm Detachment and read the confirmation.

  3. Attach again

02

Check for a Charm Detachment

The current support FAQ says a Charm Detachment must be in inventory to detach a Charm. Its documented route begins by selecting the weapon carrying it and choosing Detach Charm.

Before confirming, read the selected weapon, attached Charm and the current prompt. Valve says the detached Charm returns to the in-game inventory, where it can be attached again. This differs from permanent patch removal.

  1. Find the weapon carrying the Charm in the in-game inventory.
  2. Check that a Charm Detachment is available.
  3. Choose Detach Charm and review the current confirmation.
  4. Inspect the available Charm and a new supported position before attaching again.

03

Do not confuse attachments with entitlements

Search for Charm Detachment in the in-game inventory to read the available supply, as Valve documents. Acquisition routes include Armory Charm redemptions, Weekly Care Packages and in-game detachment purchases; read the actual supply before starting.

If the action is disabled, record the weapon, Charm, detachment availability and any protection notice. A received weapon under Trade Protection cannot be modified until its displayed restriction ends.

Three checks before changing placement

  1. Weapon

Knives are excluded by the Charm FAQ.

  2. Detachment

Check the available Charm Detachment inventory.

  3. Restriction

A Trade Protected item cannot currently be modified.

Compatibility, tool availability and temporary protection answer separate questions.

04

Compare position without inventing rarity

A placement decision is a visual preference. Keep the Charm’s exact name and the attached weapon together when comparing offers. This guide does not assign pattern rarity, templates or resale premiums.

BEFORE YOU CONTINUE

Quick checklist

  • Check the exact Charm and compatible receiving weapon.
  • Read the current Charm Detachment supply.
  • Use Detach Charm before changing an attached placement.
  • Check any temporary modification restriction.
